Basic information we cover in our hair transplant reviews

  • When the clinic was founded.
  • The location of the clinic and if there are multiple locations.
  • The details of the doctors who make up part of the medical team. We can give you details of individual doctors, and how long they have been specialising in hair transplantation.
  • Details of the medical facilities. Most hair transplant clinics also carry out cosmetic surgery and, as such, have full medical facilities.
  • Certifications that the clinic holds.
  • The number of treatments in total, and/or the annual number of hair transplants carried out.
  • Prices either per graft, hair transplant method, or package.
  • Whether there are packages including transfers, interpreters, and hotel accommodation offered.
  • The number of grafts you can have per treatment. You will tend to find out that a team of doctors will work on your hair transplant so that all the grafts you need can be carried out in one day. In the UK, you may find that a hair transplant is carried out over two days, but this is rare in Turkish clinics.
  • Financing. We will try to let you know if financing is available or if the initial consultation is free.
Hair transplant methods. We give you information about the services offered, including FUT, FUE, DHI, robotic DHI, and Biofibre hair transplants.
  • Guarantees. We will let you know about any guarantees that the clinic makes and the post-operative care you can expect to receive.
  • Before procedure support. We will let you know if there is pre-operative care.
  • Post-operative care. We will also try to let you know about the support given for the 12 months after your procedure.
  • Languages. We will detail if English and other languages are provided
  • Contact details. We will give you details of the telephone number, Whatsapp number, email, and social media with which to contact the clinic directly for more information.

What other information is provided in our hair transplant reviews?

Finding a good clinic with an excellent reputation is essential. You don’t want to squander your hard-earned cash and put your health and your hair in the hands of an inexperienced doctor. The last thing you want is a hair transplant disaster.

So it’s important to do thorough research on a hair transplant clinic. In our hair transplant reviews, we scour the internet to find out what information is out there. We look for genuine reviews on platforms like Trustpilot as well as on social media such as Facebook.

What if there are negative reviews?

If there are negative reviews, we let you know! We are only here to give you fair and objective feedback on a clinic. We are not selling any particular clinic. However, there are so many clinics that will come up from a Google search, so we serve to make your life a little easier. We do not guarantee a good result at any clinic either. It is your job to use our hair transplant reviews to make an informed decision.

Making an inquiry

If you think there is a clinic you are comfortable using, based on the information provided in our hair transplant reviews, then begin by making a direct inquiry to that individual clinic.

When you do contact the clinic after reading one of our hair transplant reviews, you should ask questions. And lots of them. You’ll be asked to send some photos of your hair loss, and the doctor will be able to give you a guide as to if you are a good candidate for a hair transplant. They may suggest the number of grafts that will provide a good result. They should also recommend either one or more hair transplant methods. The clinic will be able to give you a quote of the likely cost of your hair transplant. With our free hair loss report you know you get offers that offer the same quality.

What if I am being pressured for a sale?

The doctor must allow you to decide on your own, given the information provided. After all, this is a surgical procedure costing a reasonable amount of money. You shouldn’t feel as though you are being pressured ‘for a sale.’ If you do feel as though you are being pressured, then remember it’s easy to step away from a negotiation and go elsewhere.

There are plenty of clinics that will allow you to decide without pressuring you. If you feel like you are being sold to, our advice is to go elsewhere. Once again, we make no guarantees about the sales methods of the clinics on this platform. If you do have concerns, then please get in touch with us at [email protected], and we will consider removing that particular clinic from the platform.

Hair Transplant Abroad

If you’re considering a hair transplantation, then you are making a huge decision. You are not happy with the way you look, and the hair you’ve lost has likely caused a loss in confidence that grates with you.

Thankfully, there is something you can do. With the tremendous increase in technological developments, a hair transplant is now a great solution for many people that have hair loss. There are hundreds of hair transplant surgeons that are willing and capable of performing excellent hair transplants in Turkey, and the procedure is entirely affordable.

We cover a wide range of criteria in our extensive reviews. So if you want to know a little more about each one of them, and how important they are. Then dig in and read on!

Why Is A Hair Transplant In Turkey So Affordable?

Competition in Turkey and the continuing devaluation of the lira make Turkey THE hair transplant destination globally. However, Turkey is still a developing country, and unfortunately, there are unsafe options that make your decision vital to getting a good result.

Are there unsafe options, though?

You want a great result, but at the same time, you want a great price. You only have the hair left that you have – and making a bad decision in choosing a hair transplant surgeon means that there are few options left for you. One of the world’s top surgeons could help after a botched operation – but that would be the only avenue left to you if the procedure goes badly.

There are “clinics” in Turkey that are little more than beauty salons. Technicians are allowed to perform hair transplant procedures – but the results will invariably be poor. Many people have travelled to Turkey and found that the low price they paid was little more than bait to get you there. After that, you could be charged for the absolute basics, including a hospital gown, anaesthesia, and necessary medications. You could also find yourself having an operation in a poorly run salon by people speaking a foreign language with few skills.

Why Use Our Reviews?

A hair transplant is AN OPERATION. Okay, you are not having organs removed, but local anaesthesia is used, and your ONLY hair follicles are being transplanted and implanted into your scalp, It requires expert doctors that are also skilled artists with years of experience under the lead of other experts.

To ensure that you do not find yourself in a terrible situation, we rigorously rate clinics, so that you know what you are getting. After we have researched we curate, the criteria used to give a score and a give a recommendation. So that you know precisely how our reviews are conducted, we have listed each of the criteria we use below and briefly described how and why these are important considerations. Read on to check each criterion so that when you read the reviews of each clinic, you fully understand the rating; we have given.

Booking Process Criteria

Explanation of hair transplant procedure in full

It’s all very well booking a hair transplant procedure, but it can be a scary business flying to a foreign country to have a medical procedure. What’s going to happen when you get there? We rate clinics for fully describing what will happen from touchdown in an airport in Istanbul until you are safely back on the plane. Who will meet you, and will you go straight to a clinic or the hotel? Following that, what will happen on the day of your procedure? Who will take you to the clinic, and how will the procedure be performed? On the day after, will the clinic coordinators take you back to the clinic to remove the bandages and perform your first hair wash?

We rate clinics for detailing your full itinerary. A video is a great way for websites to explain your hair transplant procedures, and we score them accordingly for giving you this information.

Hair loss consultation involving photographs and call back by the doctor

You may find sites that are happy to offer you a price, but any quote is pretty meaningless without a doctor’s consultation. Unless a qualified doctor looks at your hair and scalp and has some details about your medical background, then it’s not possible to assess whether you would make a suitable candidate for a hair transplant.

On looking at photographs, a doctor can then recommend the options open to you, the best method of transplantation, and the number of grafts that you might want or need. We look for a site to offer a consultation form with several questions asking for photographs and preferably offering a free Skype or Zoom consultation.

Detailed information on procedures

Hair transplants can be performed in various ways; an older method that is still sometimes used to get the highest yield of hair follicles is the FUT method. This is where a strip of your scalp is removed and then sewn up. It’s not the most modern or ideal of methods. A more modern process called FUE, where follicles are harvested one by one has less scarring and a quicker healing time.

A more modern technique still is DHI which uses a Choi implanter pen to harvest hair follicles. This method has various advantages, including implanting the hair without having to shave the area where the hair is implanted. We rate clinics for explaining these methods in full of their websites so that you have a better understanding of the techniques used.

Team information available

It’s important that you know who makes up part of the clinical team. We don’t award points to clinics that offer generic information about “supposed” excellent doctors. We want to see details of the doctors and their experience in hair transplantation on the site. There are many doctors in Turkey that are famous in the hair transplantation world.

They may have developed new techniques themselves, and you’ll come across many clinics that have doctors that are the front to the clinic. If that’s the case, we also delve a little deeper for you to see if it’s that doctor who will actually perform your procedure or if they will just oversee it. You may even find details where there is an additional cost for the lead doctor to perform parts or all of your procedure. Once again you can rely on hairlinetransplantation.com to do the digging for you and find out just what you are signing up for.

Pricing and Packages Criteria

4/5-stars hotel included

Most hair transplant clinics offer package deals. Of course, you could book your own hotel, but who needs the hassle. Most clinics will provide the whole deal, which we believe is best as the less you have to organise and worry about the better. However, no one wants to slum it. You want at the very least, a 4-star hotel so you can relax before your procedure and afterwards. With the lira being so weak, you can get fantastic prices for accommodation, so you may as well take advantage of great deals that the clinic can get for you.

Some clinics will even offer you a choice of hotel. We score clinics a point for providing you with a hotel which is at least a 4 star so that you can recuperate in pleasant or luxurious surroundings. Istanbul has some excellent hotels to offer you. You can pick globally recognised brands such as the Doubletree Hilton, Radisson Blu, Marriott, and the Ritz Carlton for complete stress-free choices.

VIP Transfers included

We also award a point for VIP transfer which we consider to be a must. Istanbul is a huge city with international airports. Trying to find a taxi to a hotel or a clinic when you don’t speak the local language is not something we think you should have to deal with. Clinics, in our opinion, should arrange an itinerary with you and have a coordinator and English-speaking driver waiting for you at the airport. The VIP transfer should take you to the clinic, the hotel and the airport and any other sightseeing place you may wish to go to during your time in Turkey.

Clear price list available

We also look out for a clear price list so that you can see exactly what it is you are getting. Many clinics do not offer price lists which means you have to get in touch with them to find a quote. While we appreciate why clinics don’t offer set fees, not offering at least a price per graft means you cannot gauge whether a clinic will be on the low or high end of the spectrum.

You’ll find that lots of clinics offer a package, but frustratingly there are no prices attached. By having to make an inquiry, it makes for a time-consuming process. We award a point for clinics that offer a clear price list so that you have a general idea of their pricing. An average price you are looking for per graft is Є0.80.

Financing options available

Another aspect we look into which can be the dealbreaker for many people is if there is financing available. Of course, you will get a great deal with a hair transplant in Turkey, but it will still be upwards of Є1000 euros. Not everyone can find that money and so spreading the cost over 12 months or so, makes it a manageable extra Є100 or so a month. This means that an affordable hair transplant is virtually in everyone’s reach. We hunt down clinics that can offer you financing, so that you can have the hair transplant of your dreams.

Facility Criteria

A-license (regulated by the Turkish government)

An A-license is granted by the Turkish government and is the gold seal of medical facilities. Ideally, the clinic you choose has an A-license, which means it’s regulated by the government and has EU standards for hygiene and facilities. The clinic you select doesn’t need to have this license, but it’s preferable.

Laser Measured Hairline, Density Measurement- and Donor Area Selection Tool

It’s essential that the best surgeons also use the best tools and equipment to perform your surgery. These tools are of vital importance in getting the best result. With special instruments, surgeons can measure the hair’s density and select the placement of graft more skillfully and naturally. We make sure that the clinics you choose have invested in the most modern and accurate tools for giving you the very best result.

Hospital Or Clinic

Hair transplant procedures may or may not be performed in a hospital. It’s not vital that the procedure is conducted in a hospital; however, ideally, it is. If the clinic is located inside a hospital, you know that you are in absolutely the best place in the rare event that there are complications. If anything were to go wrong in a clinic that is not a hospital, you would be taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital and billed for the expense. It’s obviously better to choose a hospital but not vital. Confusingly some clinics are state-of-the-art and appear to be hospitals, but they aren’t, and they don’t have intensive care facilities.

Other procedures available such as dental, cosmetic

This criterion is far from the be-all and end-all; it just depends on what you want. There are some excellent hair transplant clinics out there that won’t score a point for these criteria. We added it though as lots of people want to have extra work done while having a hair transplant. It can be as little having a crown fixed at great value prices or a cosmetic procedure such as a facelift. If you only want a hair transplant, this is of no consequence to you. However, if the clinic is also performing procedures like these, you can be assured that the clinic is staffed with fully qualified doctors.

Surgery & Doctor Involvement Criteria

Reputable Doctor Part of Operational Team

Under no circumstances should you overlook this criterion in our scoring system. That’s because it’s legal in Turkey for someone who is merely a technician performing what is an operation on you. We carefully check through clinics to make sure that doctors are performing surgeries. Some sites will artfully sidestep the fact that they have no doctor, with clever wording. Under no circumstances should you have a hair transplant unless you are in the hands of a skilled doctor. We make sure we red flag clinics attempting to lure clients with no doctors, and make it abundantly clear what they are offering.

Well known lead doctor overseeing the operation

It’s not a necessary criterion, but some excellent doctors in the hair transplant business work at clinics in Turkey. For example, Dr Koray Erdogan, a Turkish surgeon, is the Vice-President, World FUE Institute. And he fronts more than one clinic in Turkey so you can be sure that a master is overseeing the operation.

Another name to look out for is Dr Serdar Gökrem, one of the best hair transplant specialists. And Dr Tayfun Oguzoglu, one of the pioneers in hair transplant procedures is also a key figure you can look out for. He’s a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), and was the first Turkish surgeon, who opted for the FUE method.

We score extra points for having a lead doctor, but we also find out more details for you. It’s unlikely one of these doctors will perform the surgery, but if you pay extra, they might. However, with a lead doctor with such an excellent reputation, we believe you can expect a high-quality hair transplant with a doctor like this at the helm of the team.

English Speaking Medical Team

It goes without saying that an English speaking team is a desirable factor in a hair transplant procedure. No one wants to be in a situation where you don’t understand what is going on – especially when you are undergoing a medical procedure. Most doctors will speak some English, and if not, they need to provide translators during the procedure, so you fully understand what is going on at all times.

Needleless Anaesthesia

Most people don’t like needles, but some people actually have a needle phobia. During a hair transplant procedure, you are in for a lot of needles, and the scalp is a sensitive area. The procedure is done under a local anaesthetic so that you won’t feel those needles as they remove donor hair and implant it.

However, what about the local anaesthesia? If you choose, you can opt for an entirely needle-free procedure with even the local anaesthesia being administered with a jet style needleless action. Not all clinics offer this facility, but this criterion could be a dealbreaker if you are needle phobic. Some clinics don’t provide it, some do at an additional cost, and some clinics offer it as standard. We give you all the info so you can choose.

Aftercare Criteria

Adequate follow-up, such as hair wash, info, hats, and pillows

We award a point for clinics that include the necessary items you need after your procedure. When you leave the clinic the last thing you need to do is start looking for a pharmacy for necessary painkillers, so you should be looking for a VIP transfer after a long day back to your hotel with info, a hat, and pillows and medication.

Following this, the day after the clinic should send a VIP car for you again to bring you back to the clinic. The clinic should perform your first hair wash, so you know how to treat your scalp and hair moving forward. You’ll also have to get used to wearing a hat to protect your scalp and pillows to sleep in an upright position for several days following your procedure. Sleeping directly on the implanted follicles will have a detrimental effect, so be aware of this. Some clinics may just shove you out the door and take your money. But you need adequate aftercare, so this is an important criteria we look for.

Aftercare up to 12 months included with follow up calls

After your procedure, it’s common for hair to fall out before it regrows and you’ll notice changes as you go along. It’s best to have regular contact with the clinic so that you can tell them how you are getting along and discuss any concerns you have with them. Many clinics will offer this service so that you are only a phone or skype call away from specialised help.

Rather than feeling on your own or reaching out for more expensive or less specialised help from a local doctor, it’s better to be able to call the clinic where you had the procedure done. For this reason, we award a point for clinics that check up on you as part of an aftercare package for 12 months.

Aftercare products included

Aftercare products are a vital part of getting the best from your hair transplant procedure. The scalp and hair need specially formulated serums, and shampoos applied regularly. You also need to take vitamins to ensure your hair grows optimally and your body has all the nutrients required. These products are provided in a package deal with some clinics providing two months supply or more.

Many clinics don’t provide any products which is understandable as they are expensive. We give you the lowdown on what the clinics are providing. But do bear in mind that for your transplant to be a success, you should make sure that you account for the price of these products. Expect them to cost around Є100 per month, and you will need them for 12 months at least. It’s a great start if the clinic provides these for a few months at least. But if the clinic does offer them, it will mean the package price is slightly higher. Since clinics compete for a low price package to appeal to customers, you often find they are omitted.

90% hair growth guarantee

You should get a good result from your transplant, after all, that’s what you are paying for, and many clinics offer a guarantee of their work. Unfortunately, with all the best will and skill of the best doctors, occasionally a hair transplant will not work. You should manage your expectations and know that it may not work, however many clinics have an excellent success rate, and as such, they are willing to compensate customers even if the procedure doesn’t work.

These clinics are large enough and carry out enough procedures to cover the cost of unsuccessful procedures in their prices. If you don’t get a satisfactory result, an excellent clinic should be willing to either refund your money or carry out a second procedure for free. This criteria can be a dealbreaker and carries peace of mind, so look out for this in our review.

Transplant Results And Before and After Pictures

You’ll find our reviewers scour the internet for pictures of before and after procedures, they have performed. While these are not the be all and end all, they are useful.

Transplantation Methods

The different transplant methods include FUT, FUE, Sapphire FUE, DHI, and fibre implantation when there are no suitable donor hairs. Not all clinics offer all these techniques with many these days favouring the Sapphire FUE technique. Some clinics provide implants that take hair from the armpits and pubic area or chest and implant to the head. And there are also techniques to improve the density of hair in areas such as the chest, beard, moustache, and eyebrows.

We detail the techniques a clinic uses, including possible female hair transplants using fibres and afro hair transplants. Many clinics also offer plasma therapy which takes oxygen-rich platelets from you and injects them into the scalp for follicles to grow optimally. We find out for you which transplantation methods are available at each clinic.

Costs of Hair Transplants, Available Packages, And Extras

We also give you the full details of the packages that are offered by clinics. Some clinics provide various packages and give you the choice of more budget-friendly stays as well as luxurious stays. They also offer different priced packages depending on whether you choose the DHI method, which is more expensive than a standard or Sapphire FUE technique.

Conclusion

We curate scores out of 25 to give an overall score out of 5. A score above 4 indicates a clinic that has ticked a lot of the right boxes and is an excellent choice. A score of around 3 is an okay clinic that is likely safe. A score below 3 indicates a clinic that isn’t getting enough right, and you can probably find a better clinic for your transplant.

It’s important to remember that the surgeon can only work with the follicles you have. If you choose a terrible clinic, it’s going to be either costly or virtually impossible to repair the damage done. We do our best to evaluate the clinics with all the information given. You may or may not pay more for clinics that we have given an excellent score to. There is a trend for many clinics to hide their prices until you inquire. To assess if you are getting good value or not a benchmark of around Є0.80 per graft will stand you in good stead. If the price is higher, then fine as long as you are getting an excellent clinic with lots of extras such as a skilled surgeon, 5-star accommodation, a good hospital, and aftercare products.
